Relationship Assessment
Four Sessions to Understand the Pattern—and Create a Roadmap
Couples often begin therapy focused on the most recent argument. The four-session Couples Assessment and Roadmap allows us to step back and understand the larger pattern: how it developed, what keeps it going, and how each partner experiences it.
We will explore your relationship history, recurring conflicts, individual backgrounds, strengths, vulnerabilities, and goals. At the end of the process, you will receive clear feedback, a shared understanding of the relationship pattern, and recommendations for moving forward.
Session One: Meeting Together
The first session includes both partners.
We will discuss what brought you to therapy, what each of you hopes will change, the history of the relationship, and the patterns that are causing the most distress.
The purpose is not to decide who is right or wrong. It is to begin understanding how the relationship functions and how each partner experiences the current difficulties
Sessions Two and Three: Individual Meetings
I will then meet separately with each partner for one session.
These meetings provide space to discuss personal history, previous relationships, family experiences, trauma, emotional sensitivities, and concerns that may be difficult to explain during the initial joint session.
The individual sessions remain part of the couples assessment. I do not maintain ongoing secrets that could interfere with couples therapy.
The couples confidentiality and secrets policy will be explained before the individual meetings
Session Four: Feedback and Roadmap
In the final assessment session, we will meet together to review what I have learned. I will share my understanding of the patterns affecting your relationship, including the emotions, differences, and vulnerabilities that may be keeping the cycle going.
We will discuss your goals, areas of strength, and recommendations for treatment. You will leave with a clearer understanding of the relationship and a roadmap for what comes next
What You Will Receive
By the end of the assessment, you will have a clearer understanding of the cycle affecting your relationship, the experiences each partner brings to that cycle, and the changes that may help you move forward. We will also determine whether continued couples therapy with me is the appropriate next step.
